Objective

You understand the fundamentals of rigging for animation in games.
You are able to create functional skeletons and control systems for 3D characters and objects.
You can apply skinning techniques to bind geometry to rigs.
You are familiar with deformation principles and how to maintain volume and form during movement.
You are able to troubleshoot and refine rigs for animation and gameplay use.

Content

What is rigging, and why is it essential in the animation pipeline for games?
How do you create a skeleton structure for a character or object?
What are joints, bones, and control rigs, and how do they work together?
How do you bind geometry to a rig using skinning techniques?
What are common deformation issues, and how can they be corrected?
How do you prepare a rig for animation and integration into a game engine?

Evaluation

Students can
