- organizing shipboard emergency procedures
- optimizing the use of resources
- controlling response to emergencies
- controlling passengers and personnel during emergency situations
- effective communications
and in part (A-V/2-1):
- implementation of shipboard emergency plans and procedures to muster and evacuate passengers
- assisting and searching passengers within the ship
Content
- design and layout of the ship, safety regulations, emergency plans and procedures
- ship specific emergency procedures: pre-planning, drills and adherence to pre-planned emergency procedures
- resource optimization: limitations, full use, improvisation
- organizing realistic drills to maintain state of readiness incl. lessons learnt and debriefing
- initial assessment for effective emergency response
- leadership skills: set an example, decision making, motivating and reassuring
- stress handling: identifying symptoms of stress and effects on performance
- human behaviour and responses in emergency situations
- establishing and maintaining effective communications incl. clear and concise instructions, exchange of information and feedback
- providing relevant information to passangers and personnel to keep them apprised: languages and nationalities on board, non-verbal communication, official emergency announcements
