Objective

Objectives: The students are provided with an entrepreneurial and innovative LCCE (Learning and Competence Creating Ecosystem) learning environment, in which the students are able to develop both their individual and the whole team’s business operations. The objective is to improve the ideation and development skills, and to cultivate the interactive and teamwork skills together with established companies and communities. A team built around a theme can also have shared marketing goals, products, and services, or other projects which enable the team to carry on business on a small scale. The student teams each receive a company mentor, with expertise matching the theme of the team, who is able to provide support in problems related to the business operations of the project. In addition, each team will have a coaching lecturer from Kymenlaakso University of Applied Sciences to help and supervise the team in the professional problems that they may face. The aim is to keep the team as a development team for at least a year.

Content

Content:  The students choose an orientation towards entrepreneurship in their individual study plans when they choose the Theme Teams. When joining a team, the students already have their individual development ideas or services, and an intention to set up a business. The concept of a Theme Team is to bring together four to six compatible students whose competences can complement each other; for instance, a student from Department of International Business could sell products designed by a student from the Department of Design. A team can also be complemented with suitable students from other universities of applied sciences or universities. The objective of the multidisciplinary projects of the Theme Teams is to execute concrete, shared business projects, which become established products or services of the companies. After the graduation, the students are more qualified to set up real businesses in which the products and services devised during the studies constitute a part of the company’s cash-flow. The exercise also gives the students an opportunity to move on to business incubator programmes, and provides assistance in finding financing for setting up businesses. In connection with the two aforementioned functions, the themes may cooperate with the regional development companies Bic-Kymi, Cursor, and Kouvola Innovation. Assessment: Group assessment, demonstrations, essays, seminars, ideation.
