Objective
Introduction:
On this online course you learn how to take care of your feet and notice which things threaten your foot health. Some diseases like diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis and skin diseases make your feet vulnerable. When diabetics have foot problems, we evaluate if they have risk feet. For diabetics there is a high risk to have and amputation, but fortunately 50-75 % of amputations are preventable. Each step you take involves a complex network of bones, muscles, tendons and ligaments.
Learning objectives:
Student should be able to
- learn structure and function of the foot and good foot care habits
- learn how to take care of your feet and notice which things threaten your foot health
- understand that some diseases like diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis and skin diseases make your feet vulnerable
- understand diabetics foot problems, and the nessesity to annual screening and risk classification at least once per year
Content
This course includes five 1 cr courses:
Anathomy and Physiology of the Foot 1 cr,
Healthy Feet, Daily Foot Care, 1 cr,
Good, proper shoes 1 cr,
Diabetic Foot, Rheumathoid Foot, Skin diseases and Foot, 1 cr
Risk Foot Examination, Treatment, and Off-Loading , 1 cr
1. Anathomy and Physiology of the Foot 1 cr
Objectives:
- you know the bones, joints and ligaments of the foot
- you know main muscles of the foot
- you know the main function of the foot
2. Healthy Feet, Daily Foot Care, 1 cr
Objectives:
- you know the basics of healthy feet and prevention of main foot problems
- you know the good tips for daily foot care and can give foot care adwises to people in different ages
Content:
Healthy feet, Daily foot care: checking, washing, cutting toe nails, exercising, creeming, proper shoes and socks
3. Good Proper Shoes, 1 cr
Objectives:
- you know the features of good proper shoes
- you know basics of special shoes
- you can give advice on people haw to bay good shoes and why it´s important
4. Diabetic Foot, Rheumathoid Foot, Skin diseases and Foot, 1 cr
Objectives:
- you know the ethiology of diabetic foot problems and how to prevent them
- you know the ethiology of rheuatoid foot problems and how to prevent them
- you know the basic skin diseases of the foot and their treatment
5. Risk Foot Examination, Treatment, and Off-Loading , 1 cr
Objectives:
- you know the diabetic foot screening principles
- you know the rheumatoid foot screening principles
- you know the basic principles of treatment of risk foot
- you know the off-loading possibilities with diabetic foot

Assessment methods and criteria
Assigments and tests to be done, at least 60 % correct answers
Every part of this online course (1cr + 1 cr + 1 cr + 1cr +1 cr) will be evaluated accepted/fail.
Xamk Scale is fail/ incomplete/ pass. Incomplete means that the task can be completed (rarely used).
Pass = Successfully completed tests and tasks planned in the course design. If there is discussion, participate and comment discussion as there is in the instruction.
