Objective
Chemistry part I:
You understand the atomic structure, periodic table and chemical bonding.
You understand the behavior of solids, liquids and gases.
You are able to balance a chemical equation and perform stoichiometric calculations for example in reactions of acids and bases and in reactions of oxidants and reductants.
Chemistry part II:
You improve your understanding of and skills in chemistry in relation to your professional field.
You understand the chemical and physical behaviour of various types of cargoes.
You understand the importance of occupational and environmental safety when handling chemicals.
Content
Chemistry part I:
How does the structure of an atom affect chemical the behaviour of an element?
What information can be obtained from the periodic table?
How does chemical bonding affect the behaviour of matter?
What information can be obtained from the phase diagram and what information do gas laws provide?
What information can be obtained from chemical equations?
What factors affect the balance and speed of a chemical reaction?
How are stoichiometric calculations performed?
What are acid-base reactions and oxidation-reduction reactions?
Chemistry part II:
Why must the chemical and physical properties of cargoes be observed?
How must the factors of thermal and fire chemistry, corrosion, and organic and polymer chemistry be observed with relation to cargo?
How is occupational and environmental safety observed when transporting dangerous goods?
