Objective
Promotion of health and functional ability
• you understand the impact of serious illness on a child's growth and development
• you understand the potentially negative effects of premature birth to a child's growth and development
• you are familiar with care and assessment to support the individual development of a premature child and to support the family when providing care
• you know the basics of children's and adolescents' mental health and factors which can affect mental health
Customer orientation
• you understand the impact of serious illness on the child, adolescent and family
• you be able to individually plan, carry out and assess the care of an ill child, taking the family's needs into account
Clinical nursing
• you understand the importance of asepsis when nursing a seriously ill child or adolescent
• you are able to provide basic care for a seriously ill child or adolescent, taking into account the limitations imposed by the illness and its treatment
• you know the medicines used in juvenile illnesses (cardiac medicines, antirheumatic drugs, antirejection drugs)
• you know the anatomical, pharmacological, psychological and physiological differences between children and adults, and understand what these differences mean in practice and when safeguarding a child's vital functions
• you are able to intensively monitor children and adolescents and to provide basic care for critically ill children and adolescents
• you recognize the most common mental health disorders in children and adolescents and know and learn to identify the symptoms of these disorders in children and adolescents
Evidence-based work and decision-making
• you understand the importance of nutritional therapy when nursing children and adolescents and know which methods will promote a child's nutrition
• you recognize the most common somatic illnesses in children and the key medical treatment methods and be able to apply the information in practice (pediatric cancer, children's cardiac defects, premature birth, juvenile arthritis, children's organ transplants)
• you know the most common treatment methods for mental health disorders in children and adolescents
Nursing ethics and professionalism
• you are able to professionally support the family of an ill child
• you are prepared to encounter a terminally ill child or adolescent and his or her family
