Objective
The student - knows main factors threatening aged people’s mental health, mental health problems and psychic illnesses - knows central nursing techniques of mental health work and psychiatric care - is able to encounter challenging behavior understanding an aging person’s individuality - knows the knowledge base, functioning and methods of intoxicant abuse work - knows special features of aging people’s substance abuse and researches of the care for intoxicant abusers - is able to speak about old people’s intoxicant use, is able to take care of and guide the client and the relatives in intoxicant use - Is familiar with the special features of old people’s pharmacotherapy, counselling of the pharmacotherapy, side and harmful effects of medicines and multi-professional cooperation in pharmacotherapy - understands the diversity of disability and its effects on an aging person - knows disability policies, programmes and functioning principles as well as laws, services and social support systems - knows methods and functioning forms of multi-professional rehabilitation
Content
Aging people’s mental health: Protecting and threatening factors effecting aging people’s me ntal health, main mental disorders and psychic illnesses of the aging, Methods of mental health work and psychiatric care in aging people, own functioning and its assessment Aging people’s intoxicant abuse work: knowledge base, functioning and methods of intoxicant abuse work. Special features of aging people’s intoxicant use, bringing them up, care and guidance Rehabilitation and disability work: Increasing and organizing knowledge and experience of disability and studying own attitudes. Familiarization with laws, services and support in society. Knowledge of objectives and functioning principles of disability policy programmes. Understanding rehabilitation as extensive and multi-professional activities and familiarization with different forms of rehabilitation. Getting practice in the assessment of an inhabitant’s ability to function and adopting a rehabilitative way of working.
