Objective

Clinical nursing
• you are able to perform the main clinical nursing tasks and diagnostic tests as part of the overall care for a surgical patient
• you are able to treat a surgical patient
• you are able to administer and evaluate safe pharmacological treatment
• you are able to support the functional ability and participation of a disabled person

Evidence-based practice and decision making
• you are able to determine the surgical patient’s need for care and plan nursing interventions according to the decision making process
• you are able to actively utilize research knowledge (recommendations, reports based on research evidence) in nursing decision making

Patient education competence
• you manage patient education as part of nursing work in surgical and perioperative care

Content

Clinical nursing
• most common procedures and diagnostic tests in surgical care
• most common diseases and symptoms requiring surgical care
• pre, intra- and postoperative care
• nursing interventions in the care of the surgical patient
• injuries
• pharmacological treatment in surgical and pre-, intra-, and postoperative care: pharmaceutical service, dosage calculations, blood transfusions, pharmacology and pharmacy

Evidence-based practice and decision making
• evaluation of the nursing process
• documentation in nursing

Patient education competence
• patient/client education

Quality and safety of social and health care services
• radiation safety
