Content

• Hyvinvoinnin käsitteet ja teoriat, fyysinen, psyykkinen ja sosiaalinen hyvinvointi, hyvinvoinnin mittaaminen ja edistäminen
• Luonnon vaikutukset terveyteen, tutkimustuloksia luonnon terveysvaikutuksista, käytännön esimerkit ja harjoitukset
• Luontoliikunnan ja retkeilyn perusvarusteet ja -taidot, reittisuunnitelman laadinta, suunnistus ja luontotuntemus, sekä maaston vaikutus liikkumiseen. Vuodenaikojen huomiointi retkeilyn suunnittelussa ja toteutuksessa.
• Turvallisuusohjeet ja -käytännöt maastossa, vuodenaikojen huomiointi turvallisuuden näkökulmasta – kylmässä toiminta, jäällä liikkumisen turvallisuus, pelastustoiminta ja hätätilanteiden hallinta.
• Lähiluonnon hyödyntäminen liikuntapaikkana, monipuoliset luonnon mahdollisuudet eri liikuntamuodossa.

Course material

The required literature and other study materials for the course will be published in the Learn environment during the course.

Study forms and methods

The course is conducted entirely as online teaching, independent of time and place.

Studies take place in the Learn environment. Access to the course platform opens approximately one week after registration for the course. You have three (3) months from the start to complete the course.

Studies are paced by independently completed learning and practice tasks and online exams. Each section of the course includes learning and practice tasks, as well as an interim exam. The student progresses from one topic area to another in numerical order from 1 to 5. The next section opens for study only after all tasks and the interim exam of the previous section have been successfully completed. At the end of the course, there is a final exam.

The course consists of five sections. The sections are not assessed separately. The course is graded on a pass/fail scale at the end of the course, once all tasks, the interim exam, and the final exam have been successfully completed.

Timing of exams and assignments

In the course, learning and practice tasks related to the theme of each section are completed, and at the end of the section, an interim exam is taken online. Approval of the interim exam requires achieving a minimum score. At the end of the course, there is a final exam covering all the topics of the course.

Student workload

1 ECTS credit corresponds to approximately 27 hours of student work. However, the workload depends on study skills and prior knowledge.

For a 5 ECTS credit course, the student's workload is approximately 135 hours. The entire course is completed independently according to one's own schedule, progressing as online studies.

Course part description

1. Planetary Well-being (1 credit)

Content: The significance of planetary well-being and its connection to individual and community health. Understanding the impact of individual and global actions on the preservation of nature as a life-enabling factor, nature's purity, biodiversity, and climate warming. Opportunities to influence climate change now and in the future, personal relationship with nature, and the importance and uniqueness of nature for the well-being of our communities and individuals.
Objectives: To understand the different dimensions of well-being and their significance, to learn sustainable ways to promote well-being while respecting and conserving nature values. To focus on sustainable choices and the promotion and nurturing of sustainable development.

2. Vitality and Well-being from Nature - Health Effects of Nature on Physical, Mental, and Social Well-being (1 credit)

Content: The effects of nature on physical, mental, and social health, research findings on the health effects of nature,
Green Care, nature as a learning environment, nature as a rehabilitative environment.
Objectives: To understand the importance of nature in promoting health, to learn to utilize nature as a support for well-being in various aspects of health and well-being.

3. Outdoor Activities and Hiking (1 credit)

Content: Everyman's rights, basics of outdoor activities and hiking, equipment and skills, route planning, navigation and nature knowledge, and the impact of terrain on movement. Considering the seasons in the planning and implementation of hiking.
Objectives: To understand the basics and equipment of outdoor activities and hiking, to plan and carry out trips in different seasons considering various conditions. To encourage movement in nature.

4. Safety in the Wilderness and Rescue Operations (1 credit)

Content: Safety guidelines and practices in the wilderness, considering the seasons from a safety perspective – operating in the cold, safety on ice, rescue operations, and emergency management.
Objectives: To learn safety and rescue skills, to know how to act in emergencies in the wilderness.

5. Nature as a Local Exercise Venue (1 credit)

Content: Utilizing local nature as an exercise venue, diverse opportunities for different forms of exercise in nature.
Objectives: To understand the possibilities of local nature as an exercise venue, to learn various forms of exercise in nature.

Successful completion of the course requires completing the learning and practice tasks, as well as passing the interim exams and the final exam.
