Objective

You learn how to create animated 2D and 3D characters.
You learn to set up motion capture system and capture motion data.

Content

How to create 3D character models, bones, skinning and rigging.
How to animate 2D characters and make sprite sheets?
What is motion capture?
What different technologies can be used to capture motion?
What is the motion capture workflow?
How to calibrate a motion capture system, set up markers and capture motion.
How to capture multiple actors and/or objects simultaneously?
How to clean up and edit the capture data?
How to utilise motion capture data in 3D animation?

Evaluation

The course "Character animation and motion capture" is located in the entry-level of your studies. The assessment emphasises criteria a and e. A student who has reached level 3 is able to
a. use professional motion capture and animation vocabulary systematically.
e. use the 2D/3D and motion capture software and techniques of the professional field. Edit motion capture data and apply it into 3D models.

Qualifications

Required studies of 3D Production module and Basics of 2D animation or equivalent skills.
