How does the firing of ceramics occur?
The course program has two parts. In the beginning, we will get acquainted with the basics of clay as a material for ceramics, go through the various techniques of hand-building, as well as practicing the surface treatment of ceramics (e.g. glazing) and ceramic firing process. Approximately halfway through the course, everyone chooses their own special interest in making ceramics (e.g. ceramic sculpture, throwing technique, use of engobe, etc.) and plans and implements their own small learning project.
The course includes costs, as each student pays for the materials they use (clays, glazes, etc.).

Opiskelumateriaali julkaistaan Learn-ympäristössä opintojakson alkaessa ja sitä täydennetään opintojakson aikana tarpeen mukaan.
Yksilölliset oppimisväylät
• Opetus toteutetaan lähiopetuksena Kouvolan kampuksella lukujärjestyksen mukaan. Etäosallistuminen ei ole mahdollista. Lähiopetusta ei tallenneta.
• Opiskelu rytmittyy työjärjestyksen mukaisten ryhmätapaamisten (lähiopetus) ja itsenäisesti tehtävien oppimistehtävien mukaan. Opintojakso koostuu lähiopetuksesta (sis. luentoja) ja lähiopetuksessa tehtävistä yksilö-, pari- ja ryhmätehtävistä. Lisäksi on itsenäistä opiskelua.
• Opettajan ohjausta on saatavilla lähitunneilla.
• Arvioitavat oppimistehtävät tehdään ohjatusti ja/tai itsenäisesti ja ne ovat joko yksilö-, pari- tai ryhmätehtäviä.
• Opintojaksolla hyödynnetään erilaisia palautteenantotapoja, kuten suullista palautetta, itsearviointia ja vertaispalautteenantoa. Joissain harvoissa tapauksissa käytetään kirjallista palautetta.
TKI ja työelämäyhteistyö
Opintojakson toteutukseen mahdollisesti suunniteltu TKI- tai työelämäyhteistyö ilmoitetaan opintojakson alkaessa.

Opintojakso ei sisällä erillistä tenttiä.
Oppimistehtävät tehdään opintojaksolle suunnitellun aikataulun mukaisesti opintojakson aikana joko lähiopetuksessa, itsenäisesti tai sekä että. Opintojakson aikataulu ilmoitetaan opintojakson alussa.
Kansainvälinen yhteistyö
Opintojakson toteutukseen mahdollisesti suunniteltu kansainvälinen yhteistyö ilmoitetaan opintojakson alkaessa.
Opiskelijan työmäärä
• 1 op vastaa noin 27 tuntia opiskelijan työtä. Työmäärä kuitenkin riippuu opiskelutaidoista ja aiemmasta osaamisesta.
• 5 op:n opintojaksolla opiskelijan työmäärä on n. 135 t, josta n. 55 t on työjärjestyksen mukaisesti lähiopetusta ja n. 80 t itsenäisesti työstettäviä oppimistehtäviä eli itsenäistä opiskelua.

Materiaalimaksu: Opintojaksolla käytetään harjoitustehtävien materiaaleina erilaisia savia ja pinnoitusmateriaaleja. Materiaaleja voi ostaa lähiopetuksen yhteydessä. Lisätiedot materiaaleista annetaan opintojakson alussa.
Opintojakson ohjelma on kaksiosainen. Alussa perehdytään perusasioihin liittyen saveen keramiikan materiaalina, käydään läpi käsinrakentamisen eri tekniikoita sekä harjoitellaan keramiikan pintakäsittelyä (mm. lasittaminen) ja polttamiseen liittyviä asioita. Noin puolivälissä opintojaksoa jokainen valitsee oman erityisen kiinnostuksen kohteen keramiikan tekemisessä (esim. keraaminen veistos, dreijaus-tekniikka, enkopikoristelu, jne.) ja suunnittelee sekä toteuttaa oman pienen oppimisprojektin.
Verkko-opetuksen osuudella tarkoitetaan opiskelijan itsenäistä opiskelua Learn-ympäristössä.
Opintojakson Learn-ympäristöön kirjautumiseen tarvittava avainsana annetaan ensimmäisellä kokoontumiskerralla.

Arviointi tehdään suhteessa opintojakson osaamistavoitteisiin ja arviointikriteereihin.
Arvioinnin perusteet on selvitetty opetussuunnitelmaan pohjautuvien tehtävänantojen yhteydessä.
Arviointimenetelmänä käytetään suullista palautetta, itsearviointia, reflektointia ja vertaisarviointia. Joissain harvoissa tapauksissa käytetään kirjallista palautetta.
Aktiivinen osallistuminen on tärkeää.
