Descriptions

The service designer masters research methods, human centered design, idealization, conceptualization and productization.
Your professional know-how is based on the different user based methods and tools. The multidisciplinary knowledge and adapting of cultures and behavioural sciences provide the basis for the comprehensive understanding about service cultures.
In the art studies, you are trained to see and to develop functional visual solutions to support the multidisciplinary cooperation. During the visualization study you learn to sketch manually and to use digital visualization methods.
During the method studies, you learn to use tools to help to identify and to pay attention to the users' needs and wishes in your planning. You can also model your design to justify your choices.
In order to operate in the world of work, you have to know the characteristics of the creative economy and develop practical skills to work as a design entrepreneur.
In the contents of the education, an analytic operation extract is emphasised and critical adapting of the information as support of the service design.
You can supplement studies according to your own objectives to choose studies also from other educations in XAMK or to extend your know-how with the special know-hows chosen by you to support your own skill profile.
On changing the labour market of the future degree of the University of applied sciences diversifies your possibilities to be employed.

Development

The teaching is blended learning (part-time); as a contact lessons, network studies and as independent working.

Students come to the Kouvola campus approximately every three weeks for two days (Friday and Saturday from 9am till 5pm). The rest of the studies is independent work in your own time.

The town has good train connections, and the campus is located a 20-minute walk from the train station. It takes approximately an hour and half by train from Helsinki to reach the campus.

Objective

You operate as an expert of service design in multidisciplinary professional teams and in international networks.
After graduation, you are able to direct the service design processes and can utilize the methods and tools of the service design. You learn the whole service design process; from user- and customer study to ideation, conceptualization and until the productization.
The field suits the people who are open minded and are used to co-operate with different people.
As a service designer, you are able to work in the companies, which offers services, communities or the public sector or as an entrepreneur.
