Graduating with a master’s degree from the programme, you will be equipped with the latest knowledge and skills in the field.

The studies focus on deepening the students’ knowledge and skills in manual medicine, based on evidence. By familiarising yourself with the latest research and international trends in the field you will expand your existing skills, improve your competencies to work in specialist positions and broaden your understanding of the causes and effects of musculoskeletal disorders (MSD).

You will gain a deeper understanding of the importance of physical activity in the treatment and prevention of musculoskeletal disorders and conditions associated with the western lifestyle. At the same time, you will also develop your expertise in sports medicine.

RDI and cooperation with world of work

During the studies, you not only deepen your own specialist skills, but can also make a valuable contribution to developing the activities of your own organisation in the field of musculoskeletal disorders. At the same time, your competence to work as a specialist in research-based development projects in the working world will increase.

You can focus on various interventions related to physical activity and competitive sports, in particular. One of the naprapathy degree programme’s most significant partners is Testausasema (Fitness Testing Center) https://testausasema.fi/ located in Kotka.

Implementation of studies and flexible learning tracks

Total duration of the studies is two to three years. The programme is primarily implemented in the form of flexible online courses, including four contact-teaching periods.

The contact-teaching periods cover 3-4 consecutive days (Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday) of intensive studying. Three of these are organised in Kotka and one in Stockholm.

If you wish, you can complete the Scientific theory and methods course (5 credits) and the Leadership course (5 credits) at another higher education institute. These studies will be accredited in the degree you are pursuing at Xamk.

Flexible study opportunities

At the beginning of the studies, you prepare your personal study plan (PSP) which helps you make choices related to the studies, practical training, master’s thesis and international activities. We make every effort to ensure that you can plan your studies in the best way possible, according to your own life situation.

The studies are implemented using various methods:

- lectures
- independent assignments
- teamwork
- online studies
- projects with companies and other organisations
- projects carried out at South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences
- examinations
- practical training.

Xamk supports students in different ways in all matters related to their studies. Your studies are supported by the Studies Coordinators and tutors who guide you in questions concerning the study environments, study practices, and similar. The services of the Student Affairs Advisors, Student Wellbeing Advisors, Study Counselling Psychologists, and student health care personnel are also available on the campuses.

According to Xamk’s BYOD policy, students must bring and use their own devices on campus.

Career opportunities

The programme provides you with expertise and skills needed when working as a naprapathy specialist in various roles, including development and expert positions.

In Finland, a master’s degree awarded by a university of applied sciences ensures the same eligibility for public positions as a master’s degree taken at a university.

Learning environments

Blended learning enables you to study in a flexible way. You can plan your own schedules and focus on studying when it is convenient for you. Despite this, it is advisable to prepare your own study plan to ensure your studies progress as intended.

During the contact teaching periods, we will discuss field-specific questions in the form of lectures, group work and practical demonstrations. This gives you the opportunity to meet other international students and create networks with colleagues interested in developments in the field.
