- You learn to draw different types of sleeves, tailored and shawl collars and apply your skills and knowledge in cutting patterns of fashion and historical costumes.

Small exam will be taken during the course. Mostly there will be several smaller assignments - those should be turned in at the end of the course.

Opiskelijan työmäärä
Equals approximately 135 hours of student work - about 4 weeks. The course includes partly guided workshop type work and lectures and partly independent working.
Toteutuksen osien kuvaus
During the course students will learn about different structures used in clothing and designing and creating interesting surfaces and textures for fabrics and clothing.
The course is divided into several segments:
- surface and texture segment includes for example embroidery and fabric printing techiques.
- pattern drafting on a fashion dummy - basic techniques
- flat pattern drafting for sleeves and collars
- lining and interfacing basics
Each segment includes different assignments, trying out techniques, sewing small samples etc.
Further information
The course precedes Fashion collection design and Implementation and documentation of a fashion collection design courses.
As several samples will be sewn and different techniques tried out students should bring materials for those assignments. Students will also need basic sewing and drawing supplies and pattern drafting supplies.

1-5
Assessment methods and criteria
The course will be graded from 1-5. Each teacher will grade their part of the course and the average will be counted.

Kurssi on kokonaisuudessaan 5 op eli opiskelijoille n.135h joka vastaa n. 4 viikon työmäärää.
Toteutuksen osien kuvaus
Kurssilla perehdytään vaatteen muotoon ja rakenteisiin sekä luovaan pinnan muodostamiseen. Kurssi on jaettu useampaan osaan: pintakokeilut, muotoilu, hihat, kaulukset sekä vuoritus ja tukeminen.
Pinnan muodostamisen osiossa opetellaan ja kokeillaan luovasti erilaisia kankaanpainon ja kirjonnan tekniikoita. Painotus on käytännön harjoituksissa ja runsaassa kokeilussa. Lopulliset tekniikkanäytteet arvioidaan.
Muotoilun osiossa opetellaan perusteet kaavan muotoilemisesta mallinuken päälle neulaten.
Kaavoituksen osiossa perehdytään erityisesti hihojen ja kaulusten kaavoitukseen ja kuositteluun. Opiskelijat syventävät osaamistaan kuosittelussa tekemällä kuositteluharjoituksia sekä 1/4 koossa että täysikokoisina. Kuositelluista kaavoista valmistetaan muutamia protoja.
Kurssin aikana perehdytään myös tukemisen ja vuorituksen merkitykseen vaatteen rakenteissa.

Kurssi valmistaa opiskelijoita tulevan vuoden mallistosuunnitteluun ja -valmistamiseen. Kurssin aikana tehdään runsaasti kokeiluja oikeilla materiaaleilla, joten kurssille voi ja kannattaa varata mukaan omia materiaaleja ja protoihin käytettävään lakanakangasta tai vastaavaa.
