Descriptions

Cybersecurity refers to the security of a digital and networked society or organization. Cybersecurity is a target state in which digital information systems can be trusted and their operation is secured.

The disruption of information systems and networks often results from a realized information security threat, so information security is a key factor in striving for cybersecurity. Cybersecurity skills are needed in the design, testing, and maintenance of secure information systems, networks, and for example, industrial internet solutions.

A cyber threat is a potentially harmful event that may target information systems. Cybersecurity skills include preparing for cyber threats that could compromise the operation of information systems and networks. Cybersecurity involves measures that can proactively manage and, if necessary, tolerate various cyber threats and their impacts.

A realized cyber threat disrupts the operation of an organization or system. The management of these cyber incidents can be divided into different areas, such as preparation, situation awareness, defense, and recovery. Cyber incidents can be fatal in our networked society.

The basic structures and services of critical infrastructure are essential for maintaining vital societal functions. Therefore, cyber incidents targeting, for example, energy production and transmission, water supply, transportation, communication, healthcare, or financial sector information systems can have significant impacts.

The need for cybersecurity experts generates thousands of jobs and the field is significantly hampered by a shortage of professionals. The cybersecurity industry opens doors for you from local markets to international arenas.

Objective

The core of our education is in functional cybersecurity skills, i.e., practical doing. In the Bachelor of Engineering, cybersecurity education, networks and application security, as well as their technical solutions, play a vital role. At the heart of the studies is the ability to detect deficiencies in the cybersecurity of information systems. You will also learn to think about the cybersecurity situation from the perspective of potential attackers.

As your education progresses, you will learn to manage cyber incidents, from situation awareness to defense against cyber threats and recovery from them. Upon graduation, you will also have a good knowledge of administrative information security, related audits, and legislation, strategies, and standards of cybersecurity.

After completing the education, you will be able to perform penetration testing, i.e., testing the system for information security risks. In cybersecurity studies, you will learn to design and maintain secure corporate information systems and networks, including wireless solutions. You will also be able to implement the necessary technical solutions for a company's internet connection according to the company's information security rules.

Upon graduation, you will also have a good knowledge of data centers and will be able to design and maintain secure applications needed in data centers and automate basic services in data centers.

The education provides general skills such as learning skills, ethical competence, community competence, innovation competence, and language and international competence. The core competence of the education includes mathematical and natural science competence, leadership and entrepreneurship competence, as well as basic information and communication technology competence. At the heart of the education, in addition to actual cybersecurity competence, are application competence and network competence.
